At Emery Village Dental, we're excited to offer our patients comprehensive orthodontic treatment for adults and children, including traditional braces and Invisalign clear aligners.

Patients appreciate the freedom that Invisalign offers with removable clear aligners. Today, we will review the Invisalign process from start to finish, so you can learn everything there is to love about Invisalign!

The Invisalign Process in North York

Step 1: The Evaluation

If you're interested in straightening your teeth, the first step is to schedule an evaluation with one of our dentists. We use this time to take x-rays and photos and perform an examination of your smile to determine what the best treatment will be to help you reach your goals.

Invisalign works well for most patients; however, it's not ideal for correcting complicated bite problems. Our dentists can review other treatment options if it's decided that Invisalign is not the best option for you.

If you do move forward with Invisalign, our dentists will use 3-D imaging to create a customized treatment plan for aligning your teeth. Invisalign then uses the treatment plan to fabricate the series of aligners that will give you the straighter, more beautiful smile you want.

Step 2: Treatment Time

Most patients have an estimated treatment time of 12 to 18 months, depending on their unique needs.

Compliance is the key to success with Invisalign, and wearing your aligners for at least 22 hours each day will keep your treatment plan on track to finish on time. Every two to three weeks, you'll change your aligners to the next in the series of your treatment plan, according to your North York Invisalign dentist's specifications.

Step 3: Retention

After you complete your treatment with Invisalign and you're enjoying your new smile, you'll want to protect your investment. Teeth have memory and a tendency to move if you don't wear a retainer after orthodontic treatment.

You'll wear a retainer that's similar to your Invisalign clear aligners at night wile you sleep to maintain your straight teeth.

Now that you know what the process is like when you straighten your teeth with Invisalign clear aligners in North York, you probably have even more questions! That's great because we're going to answer the common questions we get about Invisalign here.

How Much Does Invisalign Cost?

Clear braces with Invisalign are similar in cost to traditional braces; however, prices can vary depending on your needs and the complexity of your case.

The best way to determine what your treatment will cost is to schedule that evaluation with our dentists. They will be able to tell you exactly what the price of your treatment will be during your evaluation, as well as how long it may take.

Emery Village Dental also works with the PayBright Payment Program for patients who would like to pay for their treatment with affordable monthly payments.

How Long Does Invisalign Take?

As previously mentioned, treatment timeframes vary greatly depending on the patient's specific needs. Most cases take 12 to 18 months; however, more complex cases may take longer, while easier cases could finish in six to ten months.

How Does Invisalign Move Teeth?

Your plastic aligners fit snugly against your teeth and they apply gentle pressure to achieve gradual tooth movement. Each set of aligners moves your teeth slightly, progressing your straighter smile. This is why it's important to consistently wear your aligners for at least 22 hours each day.

Do You Eat with Your Aligners On?

Clear aligners are removable and you should take them out for meals.

Does Invisalign Hurt?

Invisalign is an incredibly comfortable treatment. You may feel slight discomfort switching to new aligners as they begin to shift your teeth, but it typically dissipates after a couple of days.

How Can I Keep My Aligners Clean?

Clear aligners are easy to clean. You can rinse them when you remove them for meals. And brushing them gently at night with a soft toothbrush removes any bacteria buildup and keeps them fresh.

Invisalign offers several advantages over traditional braces that our patients love!

  • Discretion: Probably the best thing about Invisalign is that because your aligners are clear, no one will ever notice you're straightening your teeth.
  • No restrictions: There are no changes to your diet or brushing and flossing routine needed because your aligners are removable.
  • Comfort: Aligners are easy and comfortable to wear. They're smooth and don't poke or tear at your soft tissues like brackets and wires do.
